Legal Metrology and Product Safety Training Programme


51ºÚÁÏ and are working in partnership with the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) to deliver a funded programme for building LA capability, with Product Safety and Legal Metrology trainingÌýto all local authority practitioners throughout the UK. It is offered free-of-charge to local authority practitioners.

Weighbridge Testing in compliance with NAWI Regulations 2016

This course is aimed at those candidates that have begun the S73 Examination to be an Inspector of Weights and Measures and are looking for practical guidance and experiences on how this should be done.

This training will be taking place at Axle Weight Technology Ltd (Axtec) in Runcorn. Delegates are required to attend both days.

Learning outcomes:ÌýThis course will give the candidates a good training on both the theory and practice of the verification of large capacity non-automatic weighing instruments. It will include a classroom element with a discussion of the principles of testing a large capacity weighing instrument and a practical experience of doing this.

Product Safety Database: Notifications, Reporting and Data Quality (GB LA's only)

This webinar is for Trading Standards professionals and regulatory enforcement officers who require an introductionÌýas well as for experienced officers who may require a refresher in Product Safety Database:Ìý Notifications, Reporting and Data Quality for GB LA TSO's only.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this course, participants will:

  • Be aware of PSD Annual Reports and the importance of accurate data entry.
  • Understand the product safety and noncompliance notification requirements set out in legislation, and how to meet these using the Product Safety Database.
  • Referring issues to OPSS under the nationally significant, novel or contentious criteria.ÌýHow to do it, what each criterial means.
  • Understand how to submit products for publication on the Product Recalls and Alerts website, and in which circumstances this would be required.
  • Understand what and how to include information relating to the OPSS Sampling Protocol on the PSD.Ìý
  • Be aware of recent and upcoming digital developments on the PSD.

ÌýAny need for pre-reads:

Participants may find it beneficial to review relevant guidance on MSA notification guidance.

Individuals should make sure they have PSD access prior to training.

An Introduction to the Weights and Measures (Packaged Goods) Regulations 2006

The course is an introduction to the Weights and Measures (Packaged Goods) Regulations 2006. It will consider some of the statistical principles necessary to understand the Regulations; we will have a detailed look at each of them and what they mean to an Inspector of Weights and Measures. There will be an explanation of how to carry out a practical weights and measures check, and the paperwork that can be used for this.

Learning outcomes

This course will give a good outline of some of the statistical concepts necessary to understand the Weights and Measures (Packaged Goods) Regulations 2006. It aims to provide students with a detailed understanding of each regulation and place it into the context of our work.
